January at the Shepherdstown Farmers Market

Our 2026 Winter Market will take place in the War Memorial Building (The Community Club) starting January 4, 2026, from 10am–1pm.

This Sunday's market brings winter squash, potatoes, hearty greens, and fresh produce. Stock up on pastured beef, pork, sausages, chicken cuts, eggs, honey, and beeswax candles. Don't miss Shepherd's Whey's award-winning goat cheeses, including January chevre seasonals, goatgurt, and Cajeta caramel. Join us to shop local, gather for the holidays, and send off the year together!

Have you spotted Bluebell yet? Bluebell is our market bunny, visiting a different vendor each week. Kids can search for her and choose a small prize when they find her!

Tudor Hall Farm, Natalie
Acorn squash, butternut, honey nut, Spaghetti squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, kale, broccoli, pumpkins and cabbage.
Blue Mountain Farm, Dave the Kale Master
Spinach, bok choi, tat soi, komatsuna, kale, pea shoots, senposai (Asian collard greens), butternut, acorn and spaghetti squash.
Shepherd's Whey Creamery, Emily and Matt
Shepherd's Whey will have a full lineup of our artisan goat milk cheeses:

πŸ§€ Chevre
New Seasonal Chevre for January: Bacon Mustard
Made with bacon bits (from bacon we raised ourselves here on the farm) and spicy brown mustard. Perfect on a turkey sandwich or crumbled over a spinach salad with a vinaigrette dressing. Also great on a baked potato!

We'll also have a bit of our seasonal chevres from December – Cranberry Orange and Sesame Ginger. Limited supply so come early if you forgot to stock up before Christmas.

Remember chevres freeze really well so you can grab an extra, freeze it, and never worry about running out over the two week span before the next winter market.

Routine Chevres: Basil, Black Pepper and Classic

πŸ§€ Feta
Greek style Feta in quarter or half pound portions in the brine, aged in brine 2 months. First Place Feta at the 2019 ADGA National Goat Cheese Competition.

πŸ§€ Bloomy Rinds
Napoleon's Peak – our Pyramid shaped ashed bloomy (my personal favorite of all our cheeses).
Snow Buttons – a cute little 1/4 pound patty of ashed bloomy – We will have them back at market this weekend!
Classic Camembert – a wheel of ooey gooey goodness. We are at the peak season for this bloomy rind – late season milk makes the cheese ripen with a thicker paste and a very approachable flavor.

πŸ§€ Fresh Ricotta
Fresh Ricotta made fresh each Friday available in 1/3 pound tubs.

πŸ§€ Aged Semi-Hard Cheeses – This week we will have:
Alpsiago – This Alpine style cheese has been living her best life in our underground aging caves for a full 14 months. Lovely texture, bits of sharp flavor crystals, great snacking cheese.
Shenandoah Summer – This is the closest cheese we have to a Gouda – a bit sharper and firmer than your typical Gouda.
Winter's End – This tomme is steeped in a local dark stout beer at the time of hooping. The beer gives the cheese a slightly darker color and it ripens with a sharper parmesan-y flavor. These wheels have been aging in our underground aging caves for 13 months.

Goatgurt – a spoonable cultured treat with live active yogurt cultures
Goatgurt Smoothies: A gut healthy drinkable yogurt available in Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon and Vanilla

Cajeta! We are finished making Cajeta but will still have a few jars of this traditional Latin American caramel available this weekend! This sweet treat is made with goat milk, brown sugar and loads of cinnamon that we boil for two days until it reduces down into a thick caramel sauce. We add vanilla and then water bath can it so it is shelf stable for 15 months. Perfect drizzled over ice cream, as an apple dip, spread on French toast or rolled into a crepe' or try it as a coffee sweetener or to sweeten homemade hot chocolate. Available until we sell out!
Rooster Dirt Farm, Logan
Heirloom tomatoes, spinach & feta chicken sausage, tomato & basil chicken sausage, Korean BBQ chicken sausage, pork breakfast sausage links, bratwurst, kielbasa, breakfast sausage, pork chops, pepper bacon, smoked ham hocks, lard, bone broth, fresh smoked chicken, Pasture raised eggs, blue & yellow oyster mushrooms, pioppino, lions mane and shiitake mushrooms.
Shade's Farm, Beekeeper Curt
Honey and Beeswax candles.
