Shepherd’s Whey Creamery

Shepherd’s Whey artisan goat milk cheeses for this coming weekend:

Chevre: We will be offering two seasonal Chevres for November. “Nutty Pumpkin” is our chevre blended with pumpkin butter and Praline Pecans. (Thank you Beechwood Farm for your lovely pumpkin butter each year) This lightly sweet chevre is great spread on a bagel or toast for a quick breakfast, or crumbled into a leafy green salad with berries and nuts. Our savory this month is “Olive Rosemary”. Kalamata Olives diced fine and blended into our chevre with ground Rosemary (thank you Emily for growing the rosemary for our chevre this year).

We will also have our routine Chevres: Basil, Black Pepper and Classic

Cheese Balls! In addition to the ¼ lb tubs of chevre we will be offering our seasonal chevres in cheese balls again this year. A half pound portion of the selected chevre rolled in a corresponding topping. We will be taking orders for these the first two weeks of November (starting this week) and they will be available for pick up at market or at the creamery the two weeks before Thanksgiving.

Cheese Cake! We have also decided to venture into making cheesecake for your celebrations this year. Both mini cheesecakes and 10 inch ones available in three varieties. We prefer you pre-order but plan to have a few of the mini ones available for purchase at market the two weeks before Thanksgiving. The full size ones are only available if you pre-order. We have one variety that uses mixed milk cheese and two that are all goat cheese based. We’ll have samples for you to try starting this week.

Feta: Greek style Feta in quarter or half pound portions in the brine, aged in brine 2 months. “First Place Feta” at the 2019 ADGA National Goat Cheese competition.

Bloomie Rinds:

Napoleon’s Peak – our Pyramid shaped ashed bloomy (my personal favorite of all our cheeses).

Snow Buttons – a cute little 1/4 pound patty of ashed bloomy.

Classic Camembert – a wheel of ooey gooey goodness.

Fresh Ricotta – made fresh each Friday available in 1/3 pound tubs.

Aged Semi-hard cheeses: This week we will have:

Potomac Sunrise – Our most awarded cheese taking first place semi hard cheese and Best in Show at the ADGA 2021 National Goat Cheese Competition. This curd washed cheese has a Nutty flavor, melts well. Aged approx. 8 months.

Caerphilly – A Welsh cheddar – named after the town in Wales that developed this style of cheddar. Aged 13 months.

Alpsiago – This Alpine style cheese has been living her best life in our underground aging caves for 14 months. This is the first batch of 2025 and I was so excited when I cut into it this week. Lovely texture, bits of sharp flavor crystals, great snacking cheese.

Goatgurt – a spoonable cultured treat with live active yogurt cultures.

Goatgurt Smoothies: A gut healthy drinkable yogurt available in Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon and Vanilla.
