December at the Shepherdstown Farmers Market

Our 2026 Winter Market will take place in the War Memorial Building (The Community Club) starting January 4, 2026, from 10am–1pm.

This Sunday's market brings winter squash, potatoes, hearty greens, and fresh produce, plus an incredible spread of artisan breads, pies, and baked goods. Stock up on pastured meats (including lamb just back in stock), sausages, chicken cuts, eggs, honey, beeswax candles, and holiday wreaths. Don't miss Shepherd's Whey's award-winning goat cheeses, including December chevre seasonals, cheese balls, goatgurt, and Cajeta caramel. Join us to shop local, gather for the holidays, and send off the year together!

🧀 Chevre
December Seasonals:
"Sesame Ginger" is our savory seasonal chevre for December. This Asian themed chevre is made with fresh ginger, pea shoots, water chestnuts, and toasted sesame seeds. It has a bit of heat from the ginger and a warm, nutty flavor from the toasted sesame seeds. Yum!

"Cranberry Orange" is our sweet variety for December. We blend Craisins, Candied Orange peel and a bit of orange zest into our honey sweetened chevre. Lovely spread on an English muffin or bagel, or crumbled into a salad with walnuts.

We'll have a few cheese balls for sale at the market this Sunday – your choice of Basil, Sesame Ginger or Cranberry Orange. A half pound portion of the chevre rolled in corresponding toppings perfect for your holiday feasting. Routine Chevres: Basil, Black Pepper and Classic

🧀 Aged Semi-Hard Cheeses - this week we will have:
Crescendo! – This is our take on Manchego – white flesh juxtaposed against the chocolate brown rind makes this a really pretty cheese for your cheese board. First place semi-hard cheese and reserve best in show at the 2019 National Goat Cheese Competition.
Caerphilly – A Welch cheddar – named after the town in Wales that developed this style of cheddar. Aged 14 months. I'm super excited about how this cheese has been aging out – come by for a taste!
Potomac Sunrise – Our most awarded cheese taking first place semi hard cheese and Best in Show at the ADGA 2021 National Goat Cheese Competition. This curd washed cheese has a nutty flavor and creamy texture.

Goatgurt - a spoonable cultured treat with live active yogurt cultures
Goatgurt Smoothies: A gut healthy drinkable yogurt available in Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon and Vanilla

Cajeta! We'll have more of this traditional Latin American caramel available this weekend! Just a few more weeks before this treat is gone for the season. This sweet treat is made with goat milk, brown sugar and loads of cinnamon that we boil for two days until it reduces down into a thick caramel sauce. We add vanilla and then can it in a water bath so it is shelf stable for 15 months. Perfect drizzled over ice cream, as an apple dip, spread on French toast or rolled into a crepe or try it as a coffee sweetener or to sweeten homemade hot chocolate. Come by our tent this week for a sample.
