February at the Shepherdstown Farmers Market

Our 2026 Winter Market continues this Sunday at the War Memorial Building (The Community Club) from 10am–1pm.

Join us for a mid-winter market filled with seasonal abundance, including winter squash and greens, pasture-raised meats, fresh breads, fresh cheeses, local honey, eggs, mushrooms, kombucha, and baked goods. Come stock your kitchen, connect with local producers, and enjoy the best of winter's harvest.

Have you spotted Bluebell yet? Bluebell is our market bunny, visiting a different vendor each week. Kids can search for her and choose a small prize when they find her!

Red House Farm, Kate

Red House Farm has frozen pastured chicken, pork and lamb. We have lamb stew cubes back in stock this week too!

Unfortunately the chickens and ducks are not laying so there are no eggs. This winter weather has really thrown them into disorder! There will be pastured ground goat, and turkey feet for your dog, as well as raw dog food and lots of pork, lamb and chicken organs and bones.

🧀 Chevre
February Seasonals:
I got mixed up with my dates, so I made one more batch of Bacon Mustard, so you will have one more week to snag a tub of this yummy “winter” flavor. Since it will be February, I will also be making our February Seasonal – Lemon Raspberry. So two chevres to choose from that couldn't be more different! Bacon Mustard is made with bacon bits (from bacon we raised ourselves here on the farm), spicy brown mustard and chives. Perfect on a turkey sandwich or crumbled over a spinach salad or atop a baked potato. Lemon Raspberry is a honey sweetened chevre with crushed raspberries and powdered organic lemon. Perfect to enjoy during the month of Love!

Routine Chevres: Basil, Black Pepper and Classic

🧀 Feta
Greek style, aged 2 months in brine. Available in ¼ or ½ lb portions. First Place, 2019 ADGA National Goat Cheese Competition.

🧀 Bloomy Rinds
Napoleon's Peak – our Pyramid shaped ashed bloomy (my personal favorite of all our cheeses).
Snow Buttons – a cute little 1/4 pound patty of ashed bloomy – We will have them back at market this weekend!
Classic Camembert – a wheel of ooey gooey goodness. We are at the peak season for this bloomy rind – late season milk makes the cheese ripen with a thicker paste and a very approachable flavor.

🧀 Fresh Ricotta
Fresh Ricotta made fresh each Friday available in 1/3 pound tubs.

🧀 Aged Semi-Hard Cheeses – this week we will have:
Caerphilly – A Welsh cheddar – named after the town in Wales that developed this style of cheddar. Aged 14 months.
Potomac Sunrise – Our most awarded cheese taking first place semi hard cheese and Best in Show at the ADGA 2021 National Goat Cheese Competition. This curd washed cheese has a nutty flavor. This batch is REALLY GOOD! Come by for a sample to see for yourself!!
Winter's End – This tomme is steeped in a local dark stout beer at the time of hooping. The beer gives the cheese a slightly darker color and it ripens with a sharper parmesan flavor. These wheels have been aging in our underground aging caves for 8 months.
Alpsiago – This Alpine style cheese has been living her best life in our underground aging caves for a full 14 months. Lovely texture, bits of sharp flavor crystals, great snacking cheese.

Goatgurt – a spoonable cultured treat with live active yogurt cultures
Goatgurt Smoothies: A gut healthy drinkable yogurt available in Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon and Vanilla

Cajeta! We are finished making Cajeta but will still have a few jars of this traditional Latin American caramel available this weekend! We're down to about half a flat so this will be the final week we will have Cajeta at market. This sweet treat is made with goat milk, brown sugar and loads of cinnamon that we boil for two days until it reduces down into a thick caramel sauce. We add vanilla and then water bath can it so it is shelf stable for 15 months. Perfect drizzled over French toast or rolled in a crepe for a Valentines Day Brunch.
